Winter Cold

“Fawn,” said Spot. “Let’s just stay home today.”

“What!” exclaimed Fawn. “I thought we were going skating today.”

“Yes,” said Spot. “We were going to but it is just so bitterly cold outside.”

“I thought it was supposed to warm up,” said Fawn.

“Yes,” said Spot. “So did I.”

Mr. Hansen came into the barn with a big bale of hay for Spot and a plate of left-over french fries for Fawn.

“I hope you don’t have any plans today,” said Mr. Hansen.

“No,” said Spot. “We were going to go skating but it is just so cold outside. We are just going to stay home instead.”

“Good idea,” said Mr. Hansen. “This cold snap is only supposed to last for a few more days.”

“A few more days,” said Fawn. “How will I ever be able to stand staying inside for that long?”

“We have plenty to do inside,” said Spot.

“Yes,” said Mr. Hansen. “I’d really like to see that spare room in the back cleaned out. This would be a good time to do it.”

“My thoughts exactly,” said Spot.

Right after Mr. Hansen left the barn, Fawn and Spot went right to work on the spare room.

“Wow!” exclaimed Fawn, when they opened the door to the room. “Are we in the right room?”

“Yes,” said Spot. “There is only one spare room in the barn.”

“It sure looks like Mr. Hansen has cleaned it up already,” said Fawn.

“Oh he sure has,” said Spot.

Mr. Hansen made the spare room into a games and craft room for Fawn and Spot. There were puzzles, board games and even a sewing machine for Spot. Fawn and Spot spent the next few days in the spare room and hadn’t even noticed that it had turned warm outside.

“Boy,” said Mr. Hansen, laughing one day when he came down to the barn. “Glad to see you enjoyed my little surprise, but don’t you think you should get outside and get some fresh air.”

Moral of this Story:

  • It is a good idea to stay inside when it is freezing outside.
