It was Mother’s Day morning but Mother Elf didn’t care about celebrating because she was exhausted. She had just spent the past two nights taking care of her two children, Jason and Annie. They were both very sick.
Mother Elf went into the kitchen and started making breakfast for her family. She stood yawning at the kitchen sink.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” said Daddy Elf, coming into the kitchen. “What are you doing?”
“I am making breakfast,” said Mother Elf, yawning.
Daddy Elf took a good look at Mother Elf and saw how ragged and exhausted she looked.
“You need to go and lay down and have a rest,” said Daddy Elf.
“I have too much to do,” said Mother Elf. “I have to make breakfast, clean up the kitchen and do the laundry.”
“I will take care of everything,” said Daddy Elf. “If you don’t rest, you are going to end up sick too. Now, off to bed you go-”
“But,” said Mother Elf, protesting. “There is so much to do.”
“I am not going to take no for an answer,” said Daddy Elf. “It is Mother’s Day and you are going to rest.”
Mother Elf knew she was not going to win this argument so, she did as she was told.
Daddy Elf took care of everything, just like he said he would. He even cooked dinner.
“Did you have a good rest?” asked Daddy Elf, seeing Mother Elf coming out of the bedroom.
“Yes,” said Mother Elf, looking and feeling a lot better.
“Good,” said Daddy Elf. “Dinner is cooking.”
Daddy Elf had taken care of everything. She didn’t know it but he had also baked her a cake.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” said Daddy Elf, after dinner as he brought out the cake he made for her.
“You baked this too!” cried Mother Elf. “This is amazing. Thank you so much.”
Mother Elf had the best Mother’s Day ever!
