Based on: Jackie Jester was created because the author wanted an April Fool’s character to write about. His mischievous spirit was inspired by a cherished family memory: the author’s mother once asked for help slipping a piece of cardboard into the author’s father’s work sandwich in place of lunch meat. The very next day, the author found a piece of cardboard tucked into their own school lunch sandwich. The author’s mother has since passed away, but every April Fool’s Day, the author imagines her smiling, remembering how thoroughly she got them—and smiles right along with her.
