Cold Winter Day

One cold, winter day, Arrow decided he would like to go outside and play. Now, Arrow is a year old kitten and he has only been outside a couple of times and those couple of times is when his Mommy put him on his leash and harness and let him get some fresh air. Also, it was summertime when Mommy let Arrow go outside.

Arrow saw the front door was open. He stuck his little nose outside the door. It was cold on his nose so he shook it. Arrow took a deep breath and headed out the door. Arrow’s little fur stuck straight up on his back because he was not used to the cold and the cold just hit him like a ton of bricks.

He was very brave and kept on walking. He saw the dog, Ice, sitting outside on the front porch. Ice was nice and warm because he had tons of fur on him and he was an outside dog.

“What are you doing outside?” asked Ice.

“I wanted to play,” said Arrow.

“Does Mommy know you are outside?” asked Ice.

“No,” said Arrow. “Mommy was busy cleaning up the house. She left the front door open so I decided that I wanted to come outside and play.”

“Aren’t you cold?” asked Ice.

“Hmmm,” said Arrow. “Yes, I am cold but it feels nice.”

“It won’t for long,” said Ice.

Arrow walked down the stairs of the porch. He placed his left front paw right on a mound of snow. Arrow backed up and shook his paw. It was definitely cold but Arrow didn’t care. He kept walking.

He got to the end of the walkway. Now, the driveway was at the end of the walkway and the driveway was covered in snow. Arrow took a running leap and headed straight for a snow bank.

Arrow landed face first right into the snow bank. Arrow was covered in snow from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He had never seen snow before. He kept jumping and jumping and jumping in the snow. He was having tons of fun.

All of a sudden, Arrow saw Daddy’s truck pull up in the driveway. He knew if he got caught outside he was going to be in big trouble. Arrow shook off what he could of the snow and ran towards the front door.

“Ha ha ha!” laughed Ice, when Ice saw Arrow running to the front door. “Mommy closed the front door on you.”

Arrow sat right beside Ice and watched Daddy come up the stairs to the porch.

“Hi Ice,” said Daddy, patting Ice on the head. “And hi Arrow.”

Daddy went into the house but then came right back outside again. Arrow was pretty quick though. He ran back into the house when Daddy had opened the door.

“I could have sworn I saw Arrow sitting outside with Ice,” said Daddy.

“I guess it has just been a long day for you,” said Mommy to Daddy, picking up Arrow in her arms.

Mommy had a long sleeved sweater on and didn’t feel that Arrow’s paws were wet and cold from being outside.
