Poor Mountain Family’s Christmas Secret

Poor Mountain Sister and Poor Mountain Brother were in the kitchen making some home-made Christmas decorations. They were laughing and full of joy.

“Your children are so happy,” said Grandmother, who was visiting for Christmas.

“Yes,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “They certainly are.”

“Last Christmas I spent with Aunt Pattie, Uncle Stan and the kids,” said Grandmother. “Those kids had everything you could imagine. They had so many gifts, a ton of food to eat, the most expensive Christmas tree and a ton of store bought decorations. However, those kids were the worst behaved children I have ever met. How do you do it? What is your Christmas secret?”

“We do have a Christmas secret,” said Poor Mountain Father, coming into the kitchen and giving grandmother a kiss on her cheek. “This family has love and lots of it.”

“You know,” said Grandmother, smiling. “I have to agree with you. Your sister, Pattie, and her children are lacking in the love department. Pattie just figures she can buy her children’s love.”

“Not a good way to be,” said Poor Mountain Mother.

“No,” said Grandmother ” “Money isn’t everything. Love is.”

“Agreed,” said Poor Mountain Father.
