Sunburn
“Trickster,” said Fred Fox. “What are you doing today?”
“It is so nice outside today,” said Trickster. “I think I am going to spend the whole day outside.”
“That is a good idea,” said Fred Fox. “Make sure you don’t get too much sun though.”
Fred Fox left and Trickster Bunny thought of a way he could play a trick on him. He thought that he would pretend that he sat in the sun and got a really bad sunburn. He thought of how Fred Fox would feel sorry for him and how he could then laugh and tell Fred Fox he was just joking.
While Trickster thought about this new trick he wanted to play on Fred Fox, he ended up falling asleep. He woke up and he was red from the tips of his toes to the tops of his ears. He could barely move.
Fred Fox stopped by to see his friend Trickster and he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“You are burned to a crisp,” said Fred Fox. “You are almost good enough to eat.”
“Please don’t eat me,” said Trickster. “This was supposed to be a trick I was going to play on you but it looks like the trick is on me.”
“You know,” said Fred Fox. “I don’t know how many times I have told you that your tricks will always backfire on you.”
“I know,” said Trickster. “I should have learned my lesson by now.”
“Yes,” said Fred Fox. “I’ll tell you what. As long as you stop trying to trick me, I will not eat you.”
“Okay,” said Trickster. “That is a deal.”
Trickster was very sore for a few days but he did start healing up pretty quickly. He sat and thought about what Fred Fox had said to him but he did want to just play one trick on him, just one small one.
“Trickster,” said Fred Fox. “How are you today?”
“I’m doing better,” said Trickster. “Did you know it is going to rain today?”
“Are you tricking me?” asked Fred Fox.
“Yes,” said Trickster. “I just wanted to play a small trick on you.”
“You are looking awfully good,” said Fred Fox, licking his lips.
Just before Fred Fox could grab Trickster, it started to rain.
“Some trick you played,” said Fred Fox running to get out of the rain.
“Oh my!” exclaimed Trickster. “It wasn’t supposed to rain but it did save my life.”
