Travelin’ Rick’s Best Christmas

Travelin’ Rick and Baby Patrick were in Kamloops, BC sitting at an intersection waiting for the lights to turn green and they were talking about what they were going to do for Christmas.

“I would like to go see my Mom and Dad for Christmas,” said Baby Patrick.

“Yes,” said Travelin’ Rick. I figured you would, now that your baby brother, Eric is born.”

“What are you going to do for Christmas?” asked Baby Patrick.

“I usually spend Christmas’ alone,” said Travelin’ Rick.

“I have an idea,’ said Baby Patrick. “Why don’t you come spend Christmas with my family?”

“I don’t know,” said Travelin’ Rick.

“They wouldn’t mind,” said Baby Patrick. “They already asked me if you would.”

“Well in that case,” said Travelin’ Rick. “Okay, I will.”

“I was thinking that we should maybe take the bus back to Ontario,” said Baby Patrick. “That way you can have a break from driving.”

“That sounds like a good idea,” said Travelin’ Rick. “We should book our tickets now because it is going to be a big rush for the holidays.”

Baby Patrick and Travelin’ Rick booked their tickets to go from Kamloops, BC to Toronto, Ontario for the Christmas holidays. Travelin’ Rick was actually looking forward to spending Christmas with Baby Patrick and his family.

The week before Christmas came along and Baby Patrick and Travelin’ Rick were at the bus terminal waiting to get on the bus that would take them to Ontario. The bus driver announced that everyone should board the bus. Once all the passengers were on the bus, the bus driver announced that were going to be delayed because they were waiting for a bus to come in from Vancouver but that bus was delayed because of weather conditions. So, they sat on the bus and waited and waited.

“Maybe we should have driven,’ said Baby Patrick, noticing Travelin’ Rick was getting restless.

“Yes,” said Travelin’ Rick, maybe we should have.

The bus sat and sat in the terminal for over 2 hours and the bus driver finally came on the bus and pulled away. All the passengers cheered when he did. They were getting pretty restless.

It was a really nice trip from BC to Ontario. Baby Patrick and Travelin’ Rick enjoyed themselves very much. They saw a lot of scenery and a lot of wildlife, ranging from bears to bald eagles.

Once they reached Ontario, Travelin’ Rick was a little taken aback by all the people and buildings but what bothered him the most was the traffic. The bus came to a standstill quite a few times.

Once they reached the bus terminal in Oshawa, Ontario, they were greeted by Baby Patrick’s family. Baby Patrick hugged his newly born baby brother and kissed him on his cheek.

Travelin’ Rick had the best Christmas ever. He had not had a proper Christmas in years and he really enjoyed himself.

“Eat more,” said Baby Patrick’s Mother. “There is plenty.”

“I can’t eat another bite,” said Travelin’ Rick. “I am so full.”

Travelliin’ Rick had his fill of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing and he enjoyed every single bite.

“Thank you so much,” said Travelin’ Rick to Baby Patrick’s family after Christmas dinner.

“We were glad to have you for Christmas,” said Baby Patrick’s Mother.

Travelin’ Rick went to bed that night with a tear in his eyes because he was so overwhelmed by the hospitality he was given. He remembered how good it felt to be have a proper Christmas.

“Hope to see you again next Christmas,” said Baby Patrick’s Mother, when Travelin’ Rick and Baby Patrick boarded the bus to head back to BC.

“I won’t be anywhere else,” laughed Travelin’ Rick.
