Chicken Pox
“Come on, Troll children,” said Troll Mother. “You are going to be late for school!”
Troll Brother came into the kitchen and sat down at the kitchen table.
“Where is Troll Sister?” asked Troll Mother.
“I don’t know,” said Troll Brother. “It’s kind of strange, though. She always comes down before me.”
“Something isn’t right,” said Troll Mother. “I’d better go see what is keeping her.”
Troll Mother went upstairs and knocked on Troll Sister’s bedroom door. There was no answer. Troll Mother opened the door and found Troll Sister fast asleep under a mountain of blankets.
“Troll Sister,” Troll Mother said, gently tapping her on the shoulder. “It’s time to get up. You’re going to be late for school.”
Slowly, Troll Sister rolled over and opened her eyes.
“Oh my!” exclaimed Troll Mother. “You won’t be going anywhere for a few days!”
Troll Sister’s face was covered in red spots. Troll Mother looked on her daughters back, chest, arms and legs. She was covered in spots.
“That looks like the chicken pox to me,” said Troll Daddy, standing in Troll Sisters’ doorway.
“Yes it does,” said Troll Mother. “Well, I’ll go and call the doctor.”
“It’s chicken pox,” said Troll Doctor, after examining Troll Sister. “She will not be able to go to school for at least a week. Chicken pox are highly contagious.”
“Thank you, Troll Doctor,” said Troll Mother.
That evening Troll Sister didn’t eat very much. Troll Mother made her a special bowl of homemade chicken soup.
“Troll Mother, have you and Troll Daddy ever had chicken pox?” asked Troll Brother, the next morning, at the breakfast table..
“I did,” said Troll Mother. “I was about six years old when I got them.”
“I think I did,” said Troll Daddy. “Or did I have the measles? I don’t remember.”
“I think I’ve got them,” said Troll Brother, lifting up his t-shirt to expose his red, spotted chest.
“Upstairs you go,” said Troll Mother.
“I doubt if I will ever get them,” said Troll Daddy to Troll Mother before they went to bed that night.
“I hope you don’t get them,” said Troll Mother. “You will get pretty sick if you do.”
“Come on Troll Daddy,” said Troll Mother, rolling over, once the alarm had gone off. “It’s time to get up for work.”
Troll Daddy rolled over. He was completely covered in red spots from his head to his toes.
“Oh my,” said Troll Mother. “Looks like you won’t be going anywhere for the rest of this week.”
“I guess I had the measles when I was younger,” said Troll Daddy, weakly.
