Summer Beach House

It was a rather warm summer day. Forgetful Fred was sitting outside on his front porch. He was thinking of something fun that him and Sarah, his wife, could do on their summer vacation.

“Why don’t we rent a beach house?” Forgetful Fred thought to himself. “That would be so much fun!”

Forgetful Fred was so excited by his idea that he ran into the house to tell Sarah.

“Sarah,” called Forgetful Fred. “I know what we can do for our summer vacation!”

“Me too!” exclaimed Sarah. “Let’s rent a beach house.”

“That is what I was just thinking,” said Forgetful Fred. “It is great we both want to do the same thing.”

“Yes,” said Sarah. “It is. I will make the reservations for us.”

“No,” said Forgetful Fred. “I will do it.”

“Are you sure you don’t want me to do it?” asked Sarah. “We know that you can be quite forgetful.”

“I won’t forget a thing,” said Forgetful Fred. “I promise.”

“Okay,” said Sarah. “I will leave it up to you to do.”

Sarah went to the kitchen and started cooking supper.

“What do I do first?” Forgetful Fred thought to himself. “I guess I need to find a beach house for us to rent.”

Forgetful Fred got out his laptop and started searching for the perfect summer beach house.

“I think I found the perfect one,” said Forgetful Fred. “It is only a few hours away from here.”

Forgetful Fred booked the beach house but when doing so, he forgot to press the confirmation button.

“I did it,” Forgetful Fred shouted. “I found us the perfect beach house. I paid for it and everything.”

“This is so exciting,” said Sarah. “I can hardly wait. This will be the best summer vacation ever!”

“Yes,” said Forgetful Fred. “It will.”

Forgetful Fred showed Sarah pictures of the beach house. It looked absolutely beautiful.

“I am so proud of you,” said Sarah. “This will be perfect.”

Later that week, Sarah was doing their budget and she noticed that the payment for the beach house had not gone through yet.

“That is strange,” she thought. “The payment should have gone through by now.”

Sarah called the owners of the beach house and found out they never received an order for them.

“Did your husband press the confirmation button?” asked the owner.

Sarah checked Forgetful Fred’s email and sure enough, there was an email asking for confirmation. She pressed the confirmation button but unfortunately that beach house was already rented to someone else. Sarah was disappointed but she knew Forgetful Fred would be even more so. She called the owners back.

“I am afraid that beach house was rented to someone an hour ago,” said the owner. “Give me your name and if any cancellations come up, I will let you know.”

Sarah hung up the phone and went outside to tell Forgetful Fred that they would have to change their plans for their vacation. She found him on the patio with his laptop.

“Honey,” said Forgetful Fred, seeing the look on Sarah’s face. “What is wrong? Are you feeling okay? You better not get sick or you won’t be able to go to the beach house?”

“Did you forget to press the confirmation button when you made the reservation for the beach house?” asked Sarah, in tears.

“Yes,” admitted Forgetful Fred. “I did I just noticed it about an hour ago because there was an email reminder. I called the owner and we got it straightened out. It was still available.”

“Oh thank goodness,” said Sarah, relieved.

“How did you know that I forgot to press the confirmation button?” asked Forgetful Fred.

“The payment hadn’t gone through the bank yet,” said Sarah. “I got concerned so I called the owner. They told me the beach house was already rented. I guess that it was you that they rented it to.”

“Yes,” laughed Forgetful Fred. “Next time I will let you take care of the reservations.”

“No,” said Sarah. “You did a good job so it is fine with me if you want to make our next reservation. Just make sure you press the confirmation button.”

“Oh,” said Forgetful Fred. “I will. Don’t worry.”
