Apples on the Head

It was a beautiful summer evening. Forgetful Fred and his wife, Sarah, were enjoying a leisurely walk along the beach. The water from the lake felt cool on their feet.

“This is nice,” said Sarah. “We need to do this more often.”

“Yes,” agreed Forgetful Fred. “We do. It is nice to get out of the house and it is nice that we can enjoy the fresh air.”

“I love the beach,” said Sarah. “I spent a lot of time here when I was younger.”

“That is right,” said Forgetful Fred. “Your parents had a cottage down here.”

“Yes,” said Sarah, pointing just up the road. “It is the cottage with the huge apple tree growing out the front.”

“That is a big apple tree,” said Forgetful Fred, looking at the house that Sarah was pointing at.

“Speaking of apples,” said Sarah. “Let’s go pick some.”

Forgetful Fred and Sarah walked over to the apple tree. Sarah reached up and grabbed a big red apple from it.

“This is so good,” said Sarah, taking a big bite of it. “It is so juicy.”

“Ouch!” exclaimed Forgetful Fred, rubbing the top of his head. “That hurt!”

“Oh dear,” said Sarah, as she saw a squirrel in the top branches of the tree.

The squirrel was dropping apples from the tree and they were landing on Forgetful Fred’s head.

“You nasty squirrel,” said Forgetful Fred. “Don’t do that again.”

The squirrel didn’t listen. He kept dropping apples on Forgetful Fred’s head.

“Forgetful Fred,” said Sarah. “If you move away from the tree, the squirrel won’t be able to drop apples on your head.”

“Good idea,” said Forgetful Fred, moving away from the tree and noticing no more apples were falling on his head. “That is much better.”

Moral of this Story:

  • Always look out for squirrels when standing underneath an apple tree.
  • Example: Forgetful Fred was hit in the head from a squirrel dropping apples from an apple tree.
