Fawn Goes to the Cottage
“Fawn,” said Spot. “Grampy is here!”
“What is he doing here?” asked Fawn.
“I don’t know,” said Spot. “Nobody said anything to me about him coming.”
“Look,” said Fawn. “Grampy has a horse trailer on the back of his pickup truck.”
“I see that,” said Spot.
Both Fawn and Spot watched through the window of the barn as Grampy and Mr. Hansen stood talking out in the driveway. A few times Grampy pointed toward the barn and then pointed toward the trailer. Fawn and Spot saw Mr. Hansen laugh and then shake his head in agreement with Grampy. Grampy got back into the truck and started driving it toward the barn.
“What is Grampy doing?” asked Fawn.
“I guess we’ll know soon enough,” said Spot. “Grampy is coming inside.”
“Hi Grampy!” exclaimed Fawn, when Grampy came through the barn door.
“Hi Fawn,” said Grampy, stopping to rub Fawn behind the ears.
“Hi Grampy,” said Spot. “What’s going on today?”
“Well Spot,” said Grampy. “I am taking you and Fawn for a drive.”
“You mean it,” said Fawn.
“Absolutely,” said Grampy.
“Oh boy!” exclaimed Fawn, happily. “This is going to be so much fun.”
“Where are we going to go?” asked Spot.
“We are going to Uncle Bobby’s cottage,” said Grampy. “We are having a family reunion.”
“A family reunion!” exclaimed Fawn excitedly. “This is going to be so much fun! Is Nanny going too?”
“Yes,” said Grampy. “Even Great-Grandma!”
Fawn and Spot were so excited. It had been a long, long time since the whole family had gotten together. They both couldn’t wait to see all the relatives.
Mr. Hansen and Ricky Hansen helped Grampy get Fawn and Spot onto the truck.
“Okay,” said Grampy, climbing into the cab of the truck. “Let’s go.”
Time went by really quickly for Fawn and Spot. The two hour drive seemed like nothing, especially because Grampy sang songs all the way there.
Soon, Grampy pulled into a long, wooded driveway.
“Wow!” exclaimed Fawn, amazed, when Grampy let Fawn and Spot off the truck. “So, this is what a cottage is all about.”
“Yeah,” said Spot, equally amazed. “This is really nice.”
“Hi Fawn,” said cousin Robbie. “Hi Spot.”
“Hi Robbie,” said Fawn and Spot together.
“How do you like my Daddy’s cottage?” asked Robbie.
“It’s awesome,” said Fawn. “I really like it!”
“Me too,” said Spot. “I like it a lot. It is really peaceful here.”
Fawn saw Nanny off in the distance. He ran over to her as fast as he could go, almost knocking Auntie over.
“Hey watch out!” exclaimed Auntie.
“Sorry,” said Fawn. “I have to go see Nanny.”
“That figures,” said Auntie, laughing.
“Nanny!” exclaimed Fawn, running right beside where she was sitting.
“Hi Fawn,” exclaimed Nanny. “It’s so good to see you.”
“Fawn!” shouted Spot. “Look at me. I’m swimming!”
Fawn turned around to see Spot standing in the lake.
“Wait for me!” exclaimed Fawn.
Fawn ran off the edge of the dock and landed in the lake with a big splash.
“That was fun!” exclaimed Fawn.
“Okay,” said Great Grandma. “Let’s eat!”
Great Grandma made lots of good food for everyone to eat. There was salads and rolls and slices of turkey. There was also a big chocolate cake for dessert. The cake was so delicious that Fawn had two slices.
Fawn and Spot enjoyed their little day trip to the cottage. They were very tired when they got home that night.
“That was fun!” exclaimed Fawn, when Grampy, Mr. Hansen and Ricky unloaded Fawn and Spot off the trailer.
“Yes,” Grampy agreed. “It was fun. We will have to do that again sometime.”
“Okay,” said Fawn. “But, not tomorrow. I’m too tired!”
