A Happy Scarecrow Family

As autumn’s warmth settled over the open plains southeast of Calgary, Alberta, Lonely Scarecrow gazed out at the golden fields, his straw-stuffed heart filled with a mix of nostalgia and gratitude.

“It is autumn again,” he said, his voice carried away by a gentle breeze.

Hazel, his loving wife, stood beside him, cradling their precious son in her arms.

“It seems summer went by much too quickly,” she said, her eyes sparkling with a hint of wistfulness.

Lonely Scarecrow’s thoughts turned to the upcoming change of seasons.

“I heard that Penny is going to be switching out our stuffing soon,” he said, his voice filled with anticipation. “That will feel so good to have some fresh hay inside of me instead of this dried-up stuff.”

Hazel’s face lit up with a warm smile.

“I love the smell of fresh hay,” she said, her voice filled with delight.

“Me too,” Lonely Scarecrow replied, his straw-filled chest swelling with excitement. “I overheard Joshua telling Penny that there are people who are allergic to hay. It’s called hay fever. It wouldn’t be good if we were allergic to hay.”

Hazel’s expression turned thoughtful.

“It definitely wouldn’t be,” she said, “especially since we’re 90% or more made of hay. Good thing Joshua and Penny aren’t allergic too. They would have to sell the farm.”

Just then, Penny approached, a wheelbarrow filled with fresh hay in tow.

“Who’s selling the farm?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Lonely Scarecrow explained their conversation, and Penny listened intently, a gentle smile on her face.

“There’s no need to worry about such matters,” she said, her voice reassuring. “Joshua and I are in the best of health.”

With a gentle touch, Penny removed Lonely Scarecrow from the fence post and began to replace his old stuffing with fresh hay.

“This feels so much better,” Lonely Scarecrow sighed, his straw-filled body relaxing into the softness.

“Thank you!” he exclaimed, his voice filled with gratitude.

Penny smiled, her eyes shining with kindness as she filled Hazel and their baby with fresh hay.

“You’re very welcome,” she said

. “You and your family are all ready for winter.”

Lonely Scarecrow’s heart swelled with appreciation.

“Thank you,” he said, his voice filled with sincerity. “I just want to let you know that we’re very happy to be here.”

“My happy scarecrow family,” chuckled Penny. “I love it!”
