Stumped on Earth Day

“Hello Mrs. Jones!” said Environment Bug with a big smile. “Happy Earth Day! It’s so nice to see you today.”

“Hi, Environment Bug!” exclaimed Mrs. Jones, smiling. “I’m glad to see you on this sunny Earth Day. I wanted to find you, and here you are!”

“What do you need help with?” asked Environment Bug.

“I have an old tree stump in my yard,” said Mrs. Jones, her hands shaking. “I don’t know how to get rid of it.”

“Why don’t you relax on the porch while I take a look?” offered Environment Bug kindly.

“You’re so nice,” Mrs. Jones smiled. “I’m not as young as I used to be.”

“I just want you to be safe,” said Environment Bug gently.

“Just watch out for the little bunnies in the yard,” warned Mrs. Jones, sitting down.

“Bunnies?” asked Environment Bug with surprise.

“They came in early spring and are so much fun to watch,” explained Mrs. Jones.

Environment Bug checked the stump and found three bunnies peering out at him from behind it!

“Well,” said Environment Bug, walking back to where Mrs. Jones was still sitting on the porch. “The bunnies seem to like it there. It seems they have made their home in the back of the stump.”

“Oh!” laughed Mrs. Jones. “I can’t take away their home!”

“If you enjoy them, let’s leave the stump,” suggested Environment Bug.

“They make me happy,” agreed Mrs. Jones gratefully. “Thank you for your help.”

“You’re welcome!” said Environment Bug happily. “And I think the bunnies will be happy with your decision too!”

“Even I can make a contribution to Earth Day,” laughed Mrs. Jones.
