Do What is Right

“Spot,” said Fawn. “Look what I found! I found a wallet.”

“Let me see,” said Spot.

Fawn handed the wallet to Spot. Spot opened it up and pulled out a piece of ID.

“Spot,” said Fawn, taking the wallet from her. “What are you doing? I was the one that found it.”

“True,” said Spot. “But we do have to find out who it belongs to.”

“I guess,” said Fawn.

“Fawn,” said Spot. “You aren’t thinking of keeping the wallet are you?”

“Well,” said Fawn. “I was thinking about it. I mean, there is a lot of money in it.”

“But wouldn’t you feel it was like stealing,” said Spot.

“No,” said Fawn. “I didn’t steal it, I found it.”

“Okay,” said Spot. “Do what you want with it.”

Fawn thought about what he could do with all the money that was in the wallet. He could buy all kinds of things. That night, while sleeping, Fawn dreamt about the wallet. He dreamt that some man with several small children had no money to feed them because he had lost his wallet.

Fawn woke up and ran into Spot’s room. He woke her up out of a sound sleep.

“Spot,” said Fawn, shaking her. “Wake up!”

“What is going on?” asked Spot.

“I’ve got to return that wallet,” said Fawn. “Those poor children are starving!”

“Fawn,” said Spot. “I’m glad to see that you want to do the right thing. And, what children are starving!”

“The poor children in my dream,” said Fawn.

Spot got up and called the phone number that was on the piece of ID that was inside the wallet. She found out the wallet belonged to an older man and he was very happy to have his wallet back. He needed to purchase his medication.

When the older man went to pick up his wallet, he gave Fawn and Spot $20.00 each for being so kind and honest.
