Valentine’s Day for Slow-Poke
“Come on Slow-Poke,” said Freddy Goose. “We are going to be late for the dance.”
“We have lots of time,” said Slow-Poke.
“Not really,” said Freddy. “We have to go pick up the girls first.”
Slow-Poke’s face went all red at the mention of the girls. He had a crush on Sally Swan and he was really nervous.
“What are you so nervous about?” asked Freddy.
Slow-Poke just shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t quite know how to explain his feelings to his friend because he didn’t quite understand himself what was going on.
Freddy took Slow-Poke by the hand and led him out the door. They went to Sally’s house and Sally, and her sister, Suzie were waiting on the front porch.
Slow-Poke couldn’t believe how pretty Sally was. She had her hair all up in a bun with little flowers in her hair. She had on a pink dress and a pearl necklace that her mother had lent her.
“You are late,” snapped Sally at Slow-Poke.
“You are beautiful,” Slow-Poke heard himself say.
There was an awkward moment of silence. Slow-Poke stared down at this feet while twirling the ribbon to the box of chocolates that he was carrying.
“Really,” said Sally, blushing. “You really think so.”
“Absolutely,” said Slow-Poke, handing the box of chocolates to Sally.
After that comment, Slow-Poke found he was no longer nervous and Sally forgot all about the fact that Slow-Poke was late. They ended up having a really good time at the Valentine’s Day Dance.
