Fun with Autumn Leaves
“Harriet, please don’t talk to me right now,” said Angry Cat, as he brushed past her, almost knocking her over.
“Oh dear!” cried Harriet. “What is wrong?”
“Have you looked outside yet today?” asked Angry Cat, his voice filled with frustration.
“No,” said Harriet. “I haven’t. I was just going to see if you wanted to go play in that pile of leaves that we raked up yesterday.”
“Oh believe me,” said Angry Cat, his tail twitching with irritation. “I would have loved to do that but…”
“Come on then,” said Harriet, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Let’s go!”
“The pile of leaves is gone,” yelled Angry Cat, his voice echoing through the house.
“What do you mean gone?” asked Harriet, her brow furrowing in confusion.
“Go see for yourself,” said Angry Cat, his ears flattening against his head.
Harriet took a look out the window and then burst into a fit of laughter.
“What is so funny?” asked Angry Cat, his whiskers twitching with annoyance. “The leaf pile is gone.”
“Silly boy,” said Harriet, her laughter bubbling up. “The wind has just blown them back onto the yard. We just need to rake them back up again.”
“Oh,” said Angry Cat, his ears perking up. “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” said Harriet, her smile reassuring.
“Let’s go rake them up,” said Angry Cat, his mood brightening.
Angry Cat and Harriet raked the leaves up and had so much fun jumping into the big pile of them that they didn’t even hear Mother calling them for lunch.
