A New Halloween Friend for Batty

“We have to go,” Fawn said to Spot on the night of Halloween, her voice filled with urgency. “Batty is expecting us.”

The moon cast an eerie glow over the landscape, and the trees creaked and groaned in the wind.

“Oh dear,” said Spot, her voice laced with skepticism. “Settle down. We have plenty of time.”

But Fawn was insistent, his eyes shining with concern.

“I don’t want to upset Batty,” Fawn said. “You know he likes it when we show up early. We are his only friends.”

The wind rustled through the leaves, and the sound of children’s laughter and chatter carried on the breeze.

“It is sad that more of our Storyland friends don’t like him,” said Spot, her voice filled with compassion. “Once you get past the fact that he is a bat, you can see that he is honest and caring. He is a great character to get to know.”

“True,” said Fawn. “Which is why we have to go.”

But Spot’s expression turned skeptical.

“Fawn,” she said, her voice laced with doubt. “What have you done?”

“I invited Chester Chipmunk to Batty’s party,” said Fawn, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Oh dear,” said Spot, her eyes wide with alarm. “Did you tell Chester to meet us here? Please tell me you didn’t tell Chester to meet us at Batty’s.”

Spot knew by the expression on Fawn’s face that he had done the latter.

“You know that Batty doesn’t like meeting new people,” said Spot, her voice filled with worry. “Batty is going to be so scared. Come on, let’s go.”

Fawn and Spot worried all the way to Batty’s cave, their hearts filled with anxiety. They walked in silence, listening for screams or sounds of distress. But as they got closer to Batty’s cave, they were both relieved to hear sounds of laughter echoing through the night air.

Batty hung upside down on the roof of the cave, his wings spread wide, and Chester laughed with glee. Soon, because laughter is contagious, Fawn and Spot joined in on the laughter. The four friends enjoyed their Halloween so much, their hearts filled with joy and contentment.

Batty gained a new friend, Chester, and he also gained some much-needed confidence. And as they said their goodbyes and headed home, Spot knew that Fawn had made the right decision in inviting Chester to Batty’s party.
