Autumn Festival

“Pumpkin Prince,” said Pumpkin Fairy, making breakfast on a beautiful autumn morning. “I gave the staff the day off so they can prepare for the Autumn Festival.”

“Oh,” said Pumpkin Prince. “That is okay but I thought we needed them to help clean up the grounds.”

“Already done,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “I cleaned the grounds last night while you were on the phone.”

“You call that clean,” said Pumpkin Prince, pulling back the kitchen curtains. “There is trash everywhere.”

“That is impossible,” said Pumpkin Fairy, taking a look for herself. “Oh my! It is a disaster out there! That is really strange because I know I cleaned it.”

“I believe you,” said Pumpkin Prince. “Regardless, it needs to be cleaned up again.”

Pumpkin Fairy grabbed her work gloves and a huge garbage bag and went outside with Pumpkin Prince and started cleaning up the grounds, yet again.

“And what do we have here?” asked Pumpkin Fairy, spotting something orange with black stripes, hiding under the big pile of leaves.

Pumpkin Fairy bent down and picked up the bug. She held it upside down between her thumb and forefinger so Pumpkin Prince could see it.

“A pumpkin bug!” cried Pumpkin Prince. “This is horrible. We are going to have to cancel the Autumn Festival! They are probably all over the pumpkins, eating them. What are we going to do?”

“I don’t think they are going to harm the pumpkins,” laughed Pumpkin Fairy. “I have dealt with these bugs before. They are allergic to garlic.”

“I see,” said Pumpkin Prince, also laughing. “That is the reason you had me plant all that garlic around the pumpkins. Smart thinking.”

“I believe that is why this one is up here by the house, going through the garbage,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “He is trying to get any piece of pumpkin he can get and in doing so, he is trashing the grounds.”

“I will go check the pumpkins,” said Pumpkin Prince.

“I will show this guy a clove or two of garlic,” said Pumpkin Fairy.

Pumpkin Prince didn’t see anything wrong with the pumpkins. He also didn’t see any pumpkin bugs either.

“The pumpkins are fine,” said Pumpkin Prince. ” I didn’t see any pumpkin bugs either.”

“Good,” said Pumpkin Fairy. “That pumpkin bug took off as soon as he got a whiff of garlic. I don’t think he will be back.”

“The Autumn Festival will go on as planned,” said Pumpkin Prince, helping Pumpkin Fairy finish cleaning the grounds.

Moral of this Story:

  • It is a good idea to keep the grounds clean.
  • Example: Pumpkin Fairy had to clean the grounds to the pumpkin patch twice because after she did it the first time, a pumpkin bug came along and made a complete mess.
