A Summer Trick
It was a warm summer day. Tuffy Turtle decided that he would take a walk. He saw a field with some very tall grass growing in it.
“I will walk through this field,” said Tuffy Turtle to himself.
Tuffy Turtle had fun walking through the field. The cool grass felt nice on his head. It was helping him to stay cool.
“Ouch!” cried someone in the field as Tuffy Turtle stepped on their toes. “That hurt!”
“I am sorry,” said Tuffy Turtle. “I didn’t see you there. You are Trickster Bunny, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” said Trickster Bunny. “I stole a carrot cake from my sisters. They are angry with me so, I am hiding from them.”
“Did they make the carrot cake themselves?” asked Tuffy Turtle.
“Yes,” said Trickster. “I took it to play a trick on them.”
“Well,” said Tuffy. “Just give it back to them. Then they won’t be so angry with you.”
“I can’t,” said Trickster. “I ate it.”
“Oh dear,” said Tuffy Turtle.
‘What can I do?” asked Trickster.
“Why don’t you bake another one?” asked Tuffy.
“That is a great idea!” exclaimed Trickster. “But, I don’t know how to bake.”
“I do! “exclaimed Tuffy. “I could help you.”
“That is so kind of you,” said Trickster.
Tuffy and Trickster baked a carrot cake and Trickster didn’t dare eat it. He gave it to his sisters when they came into the kitchen.
“Thank you,” said Frannie, Trickster’s oldest sister. “We aren’t angry with you anymore.”
“Oh good,” said Trickster. “I am glad. My new friend, Tuffy Turtle helped me.”
Frannie gave Tuffy and Trickster a slice of their carrot cake. She gave one to herself and her sisters too.
“I want your recipe,” said Frannie. “This carrot cake is so delicious.”
“Sure,” said Tuffy. ‘ ‘I added a touch of friendship and a big drop of love.”
Trickster, Frannie and his sisters laughed.
“Thank you for helping me today,” Trickster said to Tuffy when Tuffy announced he had to go home.
“It was my pleasure,” said Tuffy.
