It was around 9:00 pm on a weeknight. Cutie was all snuggled into bed and had just closed her eyes when her brother, Arrow came thumping up the stairs.
“Arrow!” screamed Cutie. “What are you doing up? Get to bed!”
“Relax,” said Arrow, sticking his head in his food bowl. “It is only 9 pm.”
“Don ‘t get mad at me when I wake you up at 5:00 am to listen to Jesse and JD,” said Cutie.
“But I bet Jesse and JD are still up,” said Arrow.
“I bet they will be sleeping soon,” said Cutie. “They need to get up early for work and besides, Jesse will need to be getting lots of rest in the next few days. He has his boxing match to get ready for.”
“Oh yeah,” said Arrow. “I want to box. Think I could?”
Arrow stood back and started swinging his paws in a boxing motion in front of Cutie’s face.
“Stop!” laughed Cutie. “All you would do is make everyone laugh at you. You and those big front paws of yours!”
Arrow is a very special cat. He has an extra toe on each of his two front paws. He is a polydactyl cat.
“You shouldn’t make fun of my paws,” said Arrow. “Mommy says I am special.”
“Oh you are special alright,” said Cutie, still laughing.
“I can box just fine,” said Arrow, still swinging his paws in Cutie’s face.
“You do know that to become a boxer you will need to lose weight,” said Cutie. “You are way too fat.”
“I heard Jesse say that he had to lose weight,” said Arrow. “If Jesse can lose weight, so can I.”
“Do you even know what losing weight means?” asked Cutie.
Arrow shrugged his shoulders and sat down on the floor with a dumb-founded look on his face.
“It means you will have to cut back on eating,” said Cutie.
“What!” shouted Arrow. “I can’t do that. I don’t think I want to be a boxer. I am going to bed!”
Cutie laughed as she curled up on her blanket and went to sleep.
“At least I got him to go to bed,” Cutie said, smiling to herself before drifting off to sleep.
