Listening Skills with Autumn Elf

“Autumn Elf,” said Stella, Autumn Elf’s sister. “I would like to ask you a huge favour.”

“What would that be?” asked Autumn Elf, with his earplugs in his ears.

“This is very important,” said Stella. “Please take your earplugs out of your ears and listen to me.”

“I don’t need to do that,” said Autumn Elf. “I’m listening.”

“Okay,” said Stella.” Can you please not make it rain this Saturday? I have a very important science project to do.”

“Yeah,” said Autumn Elf. “I can do that.”

“You’re sure,” said Stella. “I need to get the best mark possible on this.”

“Yes,” said Autumn Elf. “I am sure.”

“Okay,” said Stella. “It definitely helps having a brother that controls the autumn weather.”

“I suppose it does,” said Autumn Elf.

Stella had a sneaky suspicion that Autumn Elf wasn’t listening to her. She just gave him a compliment but he basically just shrugged it off.

Friday afternoon came and Stella noticed it was a beautiful autumn afternoon. She decided that she should work on her science project then instead of waiting for Saturday.

Saturday rolled around and Stella was glad she worked on her science project when she did because she saw Autumn Elf had placed big dark clouds in the sky.

“What was it that you wanted me to do today?” asked Autumn Elf.

“I wanted nice weather today,” said Stella. “I have a science project to work on. However, because of your lack of listening skills, I had a feeling you weren’t actually listening to me.”

“Oh dear,” said Autumn Elf. “I am sorry. You are right. I should have better listening skills.”

“I forgive you this time,” said Stella. “And that is only because I saw it was such a nice afternoon yesterday so I did it then. From now on though, please take your earplugs out of your ears when people are talking to you.”

“I will,” said Autumn Elf.

“I hope so,” said Stella.

“Oh don’t worry,” said Autumn Elf, pulling something off the chair he was just sitting on. “I don’t have much choice. I just broke them.”

Moral of this Story:

  • Always listen to others when they are talking.
  • Example: Stella wanted her brother to listen to. He thought he could listen to her with his earplugs still in his ears.
