Christopher Corn and Cobs of Corn

Christopher Corn sat in the cool barn. It was a very hot summer day and he was starting to feel the heat.

“What are you doing in the barn?” Farmer Fred asked while walking past Christopher. “It is a beautiful summer day.”

“It is a beautiful hot summer day,” said Christopher. “I didn’t want to end up being popcorn.”

“Popcorn!” laughed Farmer Fred. “Now that was the funniest thing I have heard.”

“It may have been funny,” said Christopher, also laughing. “But it is true. I was starting to get a little too hot.”

“It is cooler in the barn,” said Farmer Fred. “I have some chores to do and then maybe I will join you?”

“Okay,” said Christopher, grabbing his guitar. “I will be right here.”

Farmer Fred went into the barn and he grabbed a few burlap sacks and starting walking out the barn door.

“What are you doing with the burlap sacks?” asked Christopher.

“I have to pick some corn,” said Farmer Fred, not thinking.

Christopher started strumming on his guitar.

“Cobs of corn in the pot, fresh, sweet and hot,” sang Christopher. “Boil ’em up and let them be. Just don’t eat me.”

Christopher laid his guitar down and he burst out laughing.

“You are full of laughs,” said Farmer Fred, also laughing.

“I think so too,” said Christopher, still laughing.

Well,” said Farmer Fred. “Please know I would never eat you or any of the other Fresh Veggie family. I will also make sure nobody else eats you either.”

“I am glad to hear that,” said Christopher.

“Nobody will ever get hurt here,” said Farmer Fred. “Not on my watch.”

“We do appreciate your kindness,” said Christopher.

“I consider all of you to be my family,” said Farmer Fred.

“We consider you as part of our family too,” said Christopher.

Farmer Fred went and picked the corn he needed to pick and Christopher picked up his guitar once again and started singing. Both were very happy.
