Spring Fishing

Fishing Kid just finished cleaning his fishing boat. He was sitting beside it on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean.

“I do have a beautiful fishing boat.” thought Fishing Kid to himself. “Look at how it shines in the sun. It is time to get her out into the ocean and start making some serious money with it.”

Fishing kid saw Harry, his crew foreman, walking up the beach toward him.

“Harry!” shouted Fishing Kid. “Can you call the rest of the crew? It is time to get this boat into the ocean.”

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news,” said Harry. “It is going to rain for the next few days. Is it worth the risk to the crew?”

“I guess they have a few more days off then,” said Fishing Kid, not being one who would put his crew in any type of danger.

“Why don’t you and I take the boat out right now for a few hours?” asked Harry, who was itching to get out on the open water as well. “We probably have a few good hours before the rain starts.”

“That is a good idea,” said Fishing Kid.

Within an hour Fishing Kid and Harry were out on the ocean waters.

“I love the feel of the cool ocean mist on my face,” said Harry, happy to be out on the ocean.

“Me too,” said Fishing Kid. “It is the best feeling in the world.”

“Let’s drop the nets,” said Harry.

“I would love to,” said Fishing Kid, pointing to the sky. “But, I think Mother Nature has a different thing coming. Look how dark the sky is.”

Fishing kid and Harry turned the boat around and quickly headed back to shore. They just got the boat tied up when the rain started.

“Those clouds look nasty,” said Fishing Kid.

“Yes they do,” said Harry.

“Well,” said Fishing Kid. “The spring rains are here.”

“Yes,” said Harry. “Now we wait again.”

“Waiting seems to be the story of a fisherman’s life,” said Fishing Kid. “First we wait for winter to be over, then we wait for the spring rains to end.”

“Once we do get out on the water,” said Harry.” Then we have to wait for the fish.”

“True,” laughed Fishing Kid. “Very true.”

Within a few days, the rain stopped and Fishing Kid was finally able to get his fishing boat out into the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean. There is not a happier time for a fisherman than to be out on the cold waters.

Moral of this Story:

  • Waiting is the story of a fisherman’s life.
  • Example: Fishing Kid has to wait for winter, then spring rains and then he has to wait for the fish.
