Autumn Elf Roasts Marshmallows
“Today is such a beautiful warm autumn day,” said Autumn Elf, taking a walk through the woods with his younger sister, Stella.
“It is,” said Stella. “The autumn colours are so breathtaking.”
Autumn Elf and Stella walked for a bit longer. Autumn Elf was bored. The walk was nice but he wanted to do something more adventurous. He wanted to do something new and exciting.
“I am bored,” said Autumn Elf.
“What do you want to do?” asked Stella.
“I want to do something adventurous and I want to do something new and exciting,” said Autumn Elf.
“One time my friend, Andrea, roasted marshmallows,” said Stella. “She said she had so much fun and she said the marshmallows tasted so good.”
“That sounds like a good idea,” said Autumn Elf. “I would like to do that.”
“One thing though,” said Stella. “Andrea had her dad build the bonfire. It would be much too dangerous for us to do it.”
“You are right,” said Autumn Elf. “It is very dangerous to build a fire. We will have to find an adult to help us.”
Autumn Elf remembered that Frankton, an elderly elf, lived close by.
“We can go see if Frankton is home,” said Autumn Elf. “He could build us a bonfire.”
“That would be wonderful,” said Stella. “Frankton is a very nice elf. I am sure he will help us.”
“Yes,” said Autumn Elf. “I am sure he will.”
Autumn Elf and Stella found Frankton outside raking his leaves.
“Winter will soon be here,” said Frankton.
“Yes it will,” said Autumn Elf. “I am not looking forward to it.”
“Me either,” said Frankton. “There is so much to do to get ready for it. So, what can I do for you two?”
“Well,” said Autumn Elf. “Stella and I would like to know if you could build us a bonfire. We would like to roast marshmallows.”
“I could do that,” said Frankton, looking over at Stella and then at Autumn Elf and laughing.
“Why are you laughing?” asked Autumn Elf.
“What I’d like to know,” said Frankton. “How are you going to roast marshmallows without any marshmallows? It doesn’t look to me like either one of you have any with you.”
Autumn Elf and Stella’s faces turned beet red. They were so excited about roasting marshmallows that they completely overlooked the fact that neither one of them had any.
“You are in luck,” said Frankton, putting his rake down and seeing the disappointment in Autumn Elf and Stella’s faces. “I have a whole fresh bag of them.”
“Oh thank you,” said Autumn Elf.
Frankton went into the house to get the marshmallows. While he was gone, Autumn Elf and Stella finished raking Frankton’s leaves. Then they gathered up some kindling and three long sticks for the marshmallows.
“This is a nice bonfire,” said Autumn Elf when Frankton had the bonfire going.
“Perfect bonfire for a marshmallow roast,” said Frankton, passing Autumn Elf and Stella each a marshmallow.
“Yes it is,” said Stella.
Autumn Elf, Stella and Frankton enjoyed their marshmallow roast immensely.
“Now,” said Autumn Elf, later that evening when he and Stella returned home. “That was adventurous, fun and exciting.”
“It certainly was,” said Stella.
