Mitchell the Miner – Character Insight

I created Mitchell the Miner as part of my Canadian Trades/Professions Character Challenge. Miners play a very important part in the extraction of minerals and other natural resources in Canada.

In the big country of Canada, there’s a special job called mining. It’s like digging for treasure! People find many shiny things like gold, silver, and platinum, and also very useful things like coal, iron, copper, and uranium. But sometimes, finding these treasures can hurt the land, air, and water, which is not good for the Earth.

Mitchell the Miner lives in a place called Sparwood in British Columbia. Mitchell comes from a family that has been mining for three generations! That means his grandpa and dad were miners too. Mitchell loves to explore deep underground, in secret places where not many have been. It’s a bit messy, but he doesn’t mind.

Mitchell has been a miner since he finished school, twenty years ago. He’s really good at it and loves his work a lot. But there’s a problem. The mine where Mitchell works might close because it’s not being kind to nature. Mitchell is sad about this and is thinking hard about what to do next. He wishes the mine could stay open without harming the Earth, but he knows it’s probably not going to happen. So, he’s getting ready for a new adventure, just like the brave miner he is.
