Old Newspaper
Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father were sitting in their log cabin.
“Gee,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “It sure was a beautiful day outside today.”
“Yes,” said Poor Mountain Father. “Except it would have been nicer if the sun was shining.”
“It is supposed to shine tomorrow,” said Poor Mountain Mother.
“Really?” asked Poor Mountain Father, laying down his newspaper that he was reading.
“Yes,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “At least that is what I read in the paper this morning.”
“Are you talking about this paper?” asked Poor Mountain Father, pointing to the paper that he just laid down on the coffee table.
“Yes,” said Poor Mountain Mother, recognizing the photograph on the front page.
Poor Mountain Father laughed.
“What is so funny?” asked Poor Mountain Mother.
“Look at the date on that newspaper,” said Poor Mountain Father, still laughing.
Poor Mountain Mother picked up the newspaper and took a close look at the date.
“Well,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “No wonder it is supposed to be sunny tomorrow. This paper is six months old!”
“I know,” said Poor Mountain Father. “We can’t afford to buy a new newspaper so I’ve been re-reading the old ones.”
“I see,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “I think I’ll have to read the dates on the paper before I read them from now on.”
“Good idea,” said Poor Mountain Father, still laughing. “Good idea!”
