The Power of Friendship
Silly Groundhog became very sick just before Groundhog Day. He knew there was no way that he was going to have the strength to crawl out of his hole.
“I am going to have to call Peter Prairie Dog,” said Silly Groundhog. “This is not going to end well, but I don’t have a choice. Groundhog Day must go on.”
Silly Groundhog called Peter Prairie Dog, and to his surprise, Peter was very cordial and helpful.
“I know we have our differences,” said Peter. “However, being sick is not fun, and I feel it is my duty to help.”
Peter Prairie Dog dressed in his finest suit and parted his fur, putting the loose strands into a ponytail. He looked quite dapper and determined.
Storyland characters started to gather around the groundhog hole. Once he felt he had enough of a crowd gathered around, he poked his head up through the hole, and as he did, the crowd roared with delight.
“No shadow!” Peter heard them shout. “Spring will be early this year.”
“Good job,” said Silly Groundhog, watching Peter intently.
It turned out that Peter’s prediction was correct, and there was an early spring that year.
“Would you like to be my replacement in case I get sick next year or the year after?” asked Silly Groundhog.
“I would,” said Peter, happily.
Peter Prairie Dog felt a surge of pride and responsibility as he took on his new role. The Storyland characters praised him for his accurate prediction and his willingness to step in and help a friend in need. From that day forward, Peter and Silly Groundhog’s friendship grew stronger, and they worked together to ensure that Groundhog Day would always be a special event for everyone.
