As an intelligent but argumentative prairie dog, Peter grapples with the injustice of groundhogs having their own celebrated holiday while prairie dogs remain unacknowledged. His quest to establish Prairie Dog Day reflects both his passion for fairness and the personal challenges he faces—his solitary nature and tendency to argue make it difficult for him to gain support, even for a cause that seems just. Through Peter’s journey, we explore themes of recognition, belonging, and the tension between being right and being heard.
