A Benefit Concert

“I am so happy our twins are feeling better,” said Billy to his wife, Dianne. “It will be nice to take them home. Their brother is eager to show them his new video game.”

“The twins can’t wait,” said Dianne. “I think the nurses here are going to miss them.”

“This hospital has been so good in taking care of them,” said Billy. “I don’t know how they did it. This hospital is so small. It must have been hard for them to take care of twins. I think we need to do something special for it so that they can build an addition onto it for the children’s ward.”

“As in a fundraiser?” asked Dianne. “We are booked solid until the fall.”

“I am thinking of something much sooner,” said Billy. “What if we held a meet and greet before our Summer Rock Fest this weekend? We can also donate the proceeds of the concert to the hospital.”

“What a great idea!” exclaimed Dianne. “Let me make a few calls and see what we can do.”

Billy and Dianne took the twins home, and once they were settled, Dianne called the hospital. The hospital was more than happy to host a meet and greet and ecstatic about a donation for an addition to the children’s ward.

Dianne called the Jagged Trolls, and Mic, their lead singer, was thrilled to help and agreed to donate their proceeds from Rock Fest to the hospital.

Dianne also called Suzie Troll, Billy’s niece, who was in the band Just Girlz. Suzie happened to be in town for a couple of weeks and was more than happy to take part in the meet and greet. She also said she would donate her portion of the proceeds from Rock Fest to the hospital.

The meet and greet at the hospital was a huge success. Dianne had arranged for photographs of Billy, Suzie, and Mic to be autographed and every single one of them were sold. Right after the meet and greet, Billy, Suzie, and Mic were whisked away to the stadium for the concert.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” announced Dianne to the crowd. “Tonight, Billy, Suzie, and Mic have agreed to donate their earnings from this concert to the hospital to make an addition to the children’s ward. Our twins were hospitalized last week, and the hospital took such good care of them. Billy and I wanted to donate to the hospital. Enjoy tonight’s concert!”

Dianne saw people in the crowd digging into their wallets and pockets and waving money in the air. She motioned to Billy, Suzie, and Mic, who were backstage, to see what the crowd was doing.

Billy was so moved. He jumped down off the stage with Dianne, Suzie, and Mic and collected the money. The crowd had raised $5,000. Billy and the others were blown away by the generosity.

“We have raised $25,000 tonight altogether,” announced Billy at the end of the concert. “Thank you to everyone for your generosity.”

“I have just gotten off the phone with the administrator of the hospital,” said Dianne into the microphone once the crowd had settled down. “They are so thankful!”

“Thank you,” said Mic, stepping up to the microphone once Dianne was finished. “Here is a cheque for $25,000 from the Jagged Trolls to go towards that addition.”

“Suzie and Just Girlz donated $25,000, and so did Billy and I,” added Dianne.

“This $100,000 will make a beautiful addition to the children’s ward,” said Dianne with tears in her eyes. “Thank you, everyone!”

Moral of this Story:

  • Generosity and gratitude can create a positive impact on the community.
  • Example: The combined efforts and donations from the concert attendees, the band members, and Billy and Dianne resulted in a substantial amount of money being raised. This money will be used to improve the children’s ward at the hospital, directly benefiting the children who need care.
