Natural Sweets
“What’s wrong with you?” asked Bad Teeth Bradley’s mother, her voice laced with concern. “You’ve been so fidgety lately.”
“I’m bored, and I need some candy,” replied Bad Teeth Bradley, his voice tinged with a whine.
“But you promised Dad that after Easter, you would try your hardest not to eat any candy,” Mother reminded him gently.
“I know,” sighed Bad Teeth Bradley, his shoulders slumping. “I’m trying, but it’s hard.”
“Why don’t you come help me with the garden?” Mother suggested, her eyes brightening. “It’s a beautiful spring day, and the garden really needs some tender care.”
“Sure,” said Bad Teeth Bradley, his mood lifting at the prospect of spending time outdoors.
Together, Bad Teeth Bradley and his mother worked diligently in the garden that afternoon. He assisted Mother in planting her delicate seedlings and engaged in the meditative task of weeding. He also took on the responsibility of watering the plants, feeling the satisfaction of nurturing life.
“You’ve been such a great help,” praised Mother, as they admired their handiwork.
“It was nice to spend time with you,” said Bad Teeth Bradley, a genuine smile gracing his face. “It also helped keep my mind off candy.”
“You know,” Mother began, a thoughtful look crossing her face, “there are natural sweets that you could enjoy.”
“There are?” exclaimed Bad Teeth Bradley, his interest piqued.
“You’ve just planted some,” said Mother, gesturing to the garden. “Carrots, beets, and corn.”
“Oh!” exclaimed Bad Teeth Bradley, his eyes widening in realization. “Maybe I should take more of an interest in gardening because I do love those vegetables.”
“That would be wonderful,” said Mother, her heart swelling with pride at her son’s newfound appreciation for the garden’s bounty.
