Mad Dog

“Racum, wait up,” called Mad Dog. “I need to talk to you.”

Racum stopped and waited up for his friend. He could see that there was something bothering Mad Dog.

“What’s wrong with you?” asked Racum.

“My sister called me,” said Mad Dog. ”Her little baby is sick. She needs me to go stay with her and help her out.”

“Well then,” said Racum. “What is the problem then? Go be with your sister.”

”I would,” said Mad Dog. ”However, I need bus fare to get there with.”

“Oh, I see,” said Racum. ”How much do you need?”

”I need about twenty dollars,” said Mad Dog.

”I don’t have that kind of money,” said Racum.

”Oh no,” cried Mad Dog. ”Now what will I do?”

”My Dad probably has twenty dollars,” said Racum.

”Do you think he’d lend it to me?” asked Mad Dog.

”I’m sure he would,” said Racum.

”I’d pay him back,” said Mad Dog.

“I know that you would,” said Racum. ”Why don’t you come to my house right now? My Dad is home right now. He works tonight.”

”Okay,” said Mad Dog.

Racum took Mad Dog home with him.

”Of course I will lend you twenty dollars,” said Mr. Raccoon, when Racum and Mad Dog explained why Mad Dog needed the money.

”I will pay you back,” said Mad Dog.

”As soon as you get back from seeing your sister come and see me,” said Mr. Raccoon. “There are a lot of small chores that need to be done around here and it would be great if you could help me out.”

”Yes Mr Raccoon,” said Mad Dog. ”I will definitely help you. I’ll be here as soon as I get back. Thank you.”

”You have a good trip,” said Mr. Raccoon. “And give your sister our best.”

”I will,” said Mad Dog. “Thank you again Mr. Raccoon.”

The next morning, Mad Dog got on the bus to his sister’s. He stayed at his sister’s for two weeks. Millie Dog regained her strength quickly because of her brother’s help and young Mickey Dog gained strength, too.

“I’m going to miss you,” said Mad Dog to Millie when she went to the bus stop. “You’ve been such a wonderful help to us.”

”I’m going to miss you too,” said Mad Dog. ”I’m really glad that I could be of help.”

Mr. and Mrs. Raccoon were just falling asleep when they were awakened by a loud bang on the door.

”What is that?” said Mr. Raccoon, getting out of bed and going to see what was going on.

”Why it’s someone at the front door,” said Mrs. Raccoon, coming into the kitchen.

“Mad Dog,” said Mr. Raccoon, opening up the door. ”What are you doing here at this hour of the night?”

”I’m here to pay you back,” said Mad Dog. ”You told me to come see you as soon as I got back.”
