True Friends
“Oh no, they don’t!” cried Pesky Mosquito, her tiny wings fluttering with anxiety as she gazed out at the black cloud of raving mad mosquitoes descending upon her beloved friends in Storyland.
“You are not going to hurt my friends!” she declared, her voice trembling with determination.
With a fierce flutter, Pesky zoomed over to where her friends were gathered, her compound eyes scanning the swarm for familiar faces. And then, her worst nightmare came true – she spotted Disaster, the mosquito who had once been her friend but now seemed determined on causing chaos.
“Disaster!” Pesky exclaimed, her voice laced with disgust. “Take your friends and find somewhere else to go. I will not allow you to hurt my friends.”
Disaster sneered, his wings buzzing with malevolence.
“Your friends?” he laughed. “We used to be your friends, sweetheart. Where are your so-called friends? How come they aren’t here to help you? Now, stand to the side. We want to puncture each and every one of your friends.”
Just as Disaster’s swarm seemed poised to attack, a group of Storyland characters marched over, their faces set with determination. They had seen the swarm from a distance and had quickly gathered up all the cans of bug spray they could find. Now, they stood behind Pesky, their weapons hidden behind their backs. Pesky’s eyes widened as she realized what they had done. A warm glow of gratitude spread through her tiny mosquito heart. She knew she wasn’t alone.
“Oh,” she exclaimed, her confidence soaring. “My friends are here and they brought defenses with them too. At least I know who my real friends are.”
With a fierce cry, the Storyland characters raised their cans of bug spray and pointed them at Disaster and his swarm.
“Come on,” Disaster snarled, his wings beating in retreat. “Let’s go! We know where we aren’t wanted.”
As the swarm fled in disarray, Pesky felt a tiny pang of sadness. But it was quickly replaced by a sense of pride and belonging as her new friends cheered and patted her on the back.
“You were so brave, Pesky!” they exclaimed.
And in that moment, Pesky knew she had finally found her true home in Storyland, surrounded by friends who accepted her for who she was.
