The Lost Locket

“Jason!” cried his younger sister, Annie. “Come quick!”

Jason dropped his toy cars on the floor and ran to Annie’s bedroom.

“What?” Jason asked. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” said Annie. “I have the perfect gift for Mother Elf for Mother’s Day.”

“What is it?” asked Jason.

“What are you two up to?” asked Daddy Elf, who just happened to walk by Annie’s room.

“I found the perfect gift for Mother Elf for Mother’s Day,” explained Annie. “I found this old locket outside by Mother Elf’s garden. It’s so pretty.”

Daddy Elf picked up the locket from Annie’s hand and was shocked as he opened it and saw the photo inside.

“This is it!” exclaimed Daddy Elf. “I gave Mother Elf this locket on our wedding night. It holds our most precious memories. It was lost when it fell off the chain Mother Elf had it on. She has been looking for it ever since.”

“Oh!” cried Jason. “I remember her searching for it for days.”

Daddy Elf showed the children the photo that was inside.

“Is that you and Mother Elf?” asked Annie, recognizing her parents.

“It sure is,” said Daddy Elf. “That was taken the day we first met.”

“You two look so young,” said Jason.

“We were in our late teens,” said Daddy Elf.

“You look so happy,” said Annie.

“We were,” said Daddy Elf. “And we still are.”

“Mother Elf is going to love this,” said Annie.

“Definitely,” said Daddy Elf, smiling.

Daddy Elf took the locket and told the children he would fix the clasp, clean it up, and also buy a new chain for it.

“That will be wonderful,” said Annie.

Mother’s Day came, and Daddy Elf and the two children told Mother Elf they had a huge surprise for her.

“I love surprises,” said Mother Elf with joy.

They made sure Mother Elf was sitting down and then handed her a small, gift-wrapped package. Mother Elf tore the wrapping paper off and gasped with delight when she saw the locket.

“You were able to replace the locket,” she cried, but then took a closer look at it and realized it was her original locket.

Mother Elf cried as Daddy Elf put the locket around her neck.

“Annie found it out by your garden,” said Jason.

“Oh my!” cried Mother Elf. “I searched that garden for the longest time!”

“It was behind one of the bricks,” said Annie.

“This is the best Mother’s Day ever!” cried Mother Elf. “Thank you so much for finding it, Annie.”

Mother Elf hugged her family tightly and had tears of joy streaming down her face.

“Happy Mother’s Day,” they all shouted happily.
