The Sweetest April Fool’s Joke

“Hi, Bad Teeth Bradley!” Jackie Jester waved enthusiastically.

“Hello, Jackie,” replied Bad Teeth Bradley. “I’m racking my brain trying to come up with an April Fool’s prank for my dad.”

“I might just have the perfect idea,” said Jackie, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

“Do tell!” urged Bad Teeth Bradley.

Jackie glanced around to ensure privacy.

“How about I impersonate you?” suggested Jackie. “I’ll come over early in the morning before your dad wakes up. You can hide nearby and watch the fun unfold.”

“Hmm,” pondered Bad Teeth Bradley. “That could actually work.”

“It’ll be a blast,” assured Jackie.

On April Fool’s Day, Bad Teeth Bradley awoke at the crack of dawn. He tiptoed to his father’s bedroom, confirmed he was still asleep, and then stealthily descended the stairs to let Jackie in through the kitchen’s back door.

“Take a seat at the kitchen table,” instructed Bad Teeth Bradley. “Dad always starts his day with coffee. When he comes in, ask him for candy for breakfast.”

“Candy for breakfast?” Jackie echoed, puzzled.

“That’s right,” Bad Teeth Bradley affirmed. “My love for candy is legendary. Remember how bad my teeth were before dad had them fixed? He’ll definitely mistake you for me.”

“When does your father usually get up?” inquired Jackie.

“Any moment now,” whispered Bad Teeth Bradley.

He concealed himself behind the basement door, leaving it slightly ajar to catch his father’s reaction.

“Good morning, son,” greeted Bad Teeth Bradley’s father, making a beeline for the coffee maker.

“Morning, Dad,” Jackie mimicked Bad Teeth Bradley’s voice.

“You sound hoarse,” observed his father. “Everything alright?”

“All good,” Jackie assured him.

“Ready for breakfast?” asked Bad Teeth Bradley’s father.

“Could I have some candy?” Jackie ventured.

“Candy?!” his father exclaimed, incredulous. “After the fortune I spent on your dental work!”

Then, turning around, his gaze shifted from Jackie to the calendar and back again.

“April Fool’s!” Bad Teeth Bradley burst from his hiding spot, unable to contain his laughter.

“You got me,” his father chuckled, joining in the merriment.
