Ripe Sunflowers

“Please help me,” said Stella, a new neighbour.

“What can I help you with?” asked Sunflower Suzie, who just happened to be taking a walk with her husband, George on a warm autumn day.

“I heard you are an expert on sunflowers,” said Stella. “I have a dozen of them and they are still green. They are not ripe. I am getting concerned about them because they should be ripe by now.”

“Let me take a look at them,” said Sunflower Suzie.

Sunflower Suzie followed Stella into her backyard. She looked closely at each of the sunflowers.

“There is nothing wrong with your sunflowers,” said Sunflower Suzie.

“Are you sure?” asked Stella.

“Absolutely,” said Sunflower Suzie.

“Why aren’t they ripening?” asked Stella.

“Take a look at the other sunflowers in the neighbourhood,” said Sunflower Suzie. “They are all the same. We are having a very warm autumn. Once the weather starts to cool down, the sunflowers will ripen.”

“Ah!”exclaimed Stella. “That explains everything. You really are an expert.”
