Skinny Matilda and the Bikini Contest

“Oh look,” said Skinny Matilda to herself, while walking along the beach on a hot summer day. “That poster says there is a bikini contest at the beach this afternoon. I am going to enter it.”

Skinny Matilda would never have considered entering such a contest but she has gained a ton of confidence in the last little while. Skinny Matilda used to be fat but she became very ill after gorging on her best friend, Stella’s wedding cake. She was hospitalized and in a coma for two months. She had lost over 200 pounds.

“I think you are too old to enter a bikini contest,” said Skinny Matilda’s other friend, Harold.

“Thank you for the vote of confidence,” said Skinny Matilda.

“I have confidence in you,” said Harold. “I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”

“I appreciate that,” said Skinny Matilda. “I have always wanted to wear a bikini and now that I can, I am going to make the most of it.”

Several other people made fun of her but she stuck to her plan and entered the contest. Skinny Matilda didn’t care what others thought. She felt good about herself. That was all that mattered to her.

Skinny Matilda didn’t win the bikini contest but she did get an honourable mention from the judge.

“Even though you didn’t win,” said the judge. “I commend your courage for entering this contest. We need to have more people like you in this world.”

That made entering the contest worthwhile.

“I am sorry for what I said earlier,” said Harold. “I am very proud of you too.”

“Thank you,” said Skinny Matilda. “I appreciate that very much.”

Skinny Matilda was very happy and she was also proud of herself.
