Unlucky Uncle Ungus Wanted Oranges
Unlucky Uncle Ungus was born on Friday the 13th. He is now 70 years old and he has had bad luck for most of his life.
“I wish I wasn’t born on Friday the 13th,” Unlucky Uncle Ungus said to himself every time bad luck came his way. “I am sure my life would have been so much better.”
One Friday the 13th, Unlucky Uncle Ungus went to the grocery store. He wanted to buy some oranges. He searched the whole store and he couldn’t see a single orange. Unlucky Uncle Ungus lost it. He made a scene in the middle of the produce section.
“What do you mean you don’t have any oranges!” Unlucky Uncle Ungus screamed. “Oranges are the only thing I wanted to buy.”
“Sir,” said the store manager, sternly, approaching him. “I am afraid I am going to have to ask you to leave. You are disrupting the whole store.”
“Fine!” Unlucky Uncle Ungus screamed as he stomped his feet and left the store.
Unlucky Uncle Ungus went home. He didn’t feel bad at all for the way he acted. He felt he was justified for being so angry.
About a half an hour later, Unlucky Uncle Ungus heard a knock at the door.
“Hello,” said a young girl at the door, carrying a grocery bag.
“Hello,” said Unlucky Uncle Ungus, recognizing the young girl as being a cashier at the grocery store he had just made a scene at.
“I overheard that you were looking for oranges earlier,” said the young girl. “Our shipment of oranges didn’t come in yet. We should have it in tomorrow. I did happen to find a bag of oranges in the back room. I thought I would bring them to you.”
“I don’t know what to say,” said Unlucky Uncle Ungus, suddenly feeling bad for the way he behaved earlier. “But I do thank you for being so kind.”
“It is Friday the 13th,” laughed the young girl.
“Yes,” laughed Unlucky Uncle Ungus. “It definitely is.”
