Hillbilly Bob Takes Mother for a Walk on Mother’s Day

“Do you have any plans for Mother’s Day?” asked Hillbilly Bob to his mother, who was sitting on the porch outside.

“No,” said Mother. “I don’t.”

“Good,” said Hillbilly Bob. “I have something very special planned for you.”

“Oh!” exclaimed Mother. “What is it?”

“It is a surprise,” said Hillbilly Bob. “Just make sure your hiking boots are handy.”

“Hiking boots,” repeated Mother. “That is kind of a strange request but okay, I will have them ready.”

Mother’s Day morning came and Father and Hillbilly Bob cooked breakfast and did the dishes.

“Go get your hiking boots on,” said Hillbilly Bob.

Mother did as she was told. She was very curious as to what her son was up to. Once Mother had her hiking boots on, Hillbilly Bob led her out the back door. Once outside, he explained what he was doing.

“I am going to take you for a walk in the hills,” said Hillbilly Bob.

“A walk,” said Mother. “That sounds like fun but why?”

“Well,” said Hillbilly Bob. “I know how much you enjoy nature and I know you don’t get out of the house much, so, I thought this would be a perfect day to get outside so you could enjoy nature.”

“Okay,” said Mother. “Let’s go.”

Hillbilly Bob and Mother headed up into the hills. Hillbilly Bob walked slowly and held Mother’s hand when she needed some help.

“Look,” said Hillbilly Bob, pointing to an owl that was sitting on a branch of an old oak tree.

“What a beautiful bird,” said Mother, taking a really good look at the owl.

“He certainly is beautiful,” said Hillbilly Bob.

Hillbilly Bob didn’t take Mother too far up in the hills. He didn’t want her to hurt herself.

“I just saw a fox,” said Mother, excitedly.

“Nice,” said Hillbilly Bob.” I just found your favourite flower.”

“Oh my!” exclaimed Mother. “I love daffodils.”

“It isn’t a daffodil,” said Hillbilly Bob. “It is your other favourite flower. Come take a look.”

“Look at that,” said Mother in awe. “Wild lilies! They are so beautiful”.

Hillbilly Bob took a picture of Mother standing in the middle of the patch of wild lilies.

“I had forgotten that they grow wild here,” said Mother.

Mother saw a huge pine tree in the middle of the clearing. Underneath the tree she spotted a rabbit.

“He is foraging for food,” said Hillbilly Bob.

“Yes,” said Mother. “He sure is. He looks pretty healthy.”

“It was a very mild winter,” said Hillbilly Bob. “That is the reason he looks so healthy.”

Hillbilly Bob and Mother had the best time ever on their Mother’s Day walk. In fact, they had so much fun that they decided to make their walk in the hills a yearly tradition.

“Happy Mother’s Day,” said Hillbilly Bob, taking Mother back home.

“Thank you,” said Mother giving Hillbilly Bob a big hug and kiss. “I was a little skeptical at first about our little walk but I enjoyed myself immensely.”

“I am very glad you liked it,” said Hillbilly Bob. “I enjoyed our time together as well.”
