A Drop of Summer

Lucky Leprechaun just woke up from his nap. He had a very rough night the night before and he was trying to catch up on his sleep.

“I am so tired today,” said Lucky. “Why did I bother waking up? I need to go back to sleep.”

Lucky Leprechaun tried going back to sleep but he just tossed and turned. The sun was coming in through his bedroom window and it was shining in his eyes.

“I love summer,” said Lucky, getting up and pulling the blinds closed. “However, that sun is just too much for me to handle today.”

Lucky Leprechaun just couldn’t sleep no matter how much he tried. He got up out of bed and went into the kitchen.

“I need some breakfast,” said Lucky to himself, getting a glass out of the cupboard right above his head and took out his bottle of rum. He poured a drop into his orange juice and took another sip.

“That is better,” said Lucky Leprechaun. “Funny how good a little drop of summer makes the orange juice taste better.”

Lucky Leprechaun did a little jig right on his kitchen floor. He knew he wasn’t going to get any sleep and he didn’t feel like wasting the whole day in bed. He got dressed and went outside.

The sun was bright and warm. It stung his eyes for the first minute or so.

“What a gorgeous day!” Lucky Leprechaun heard from a familiar voice. “I love summer.”

“Keep it down Hoppy,” said Lucky Leprechaun to his neighbour Hoppy Bunny.

“Did you stay out too late last night?” asked Hoppy. “I saw you stumbling up the road at around 2:00 am.”

“Yes,” said Lucky Leprechaun. “It was a late night. I was out delivering pots of gold all night long.”

“Did any of those pots of gold happen to have a bottle or two of rum in them?” asked Hoppy.

“Not a chance,” said Lucky. “Not a single one.”

“You must have gotten some rum from somewhere last night,” said Hoppy. “You were in pretty bad shape last night. I bet you have a pretty good hangover this morning.”

“I bought my bottle of rum,” said Lucky. “I didn’t steal it.”

“Sure, sure,” said Hoppy. “Just like you didn’t steal my bottle of rum the other night.”

“I told you I would pay you for it,” said Lucky. “I borrowed it. I didn’t steal it.”

“Do you have any of it left?” asked Hoppy.

“I have the whole bottle still,” said Lucky. “I only had one drop of it in my orange juice this morning.”

Lucky Leprechaun went into the house and got the bottle of rum. He handed it back to Hoppy.

“That was some drop,” said Hoppy, noticing that half the bottle was gone. “The bottle is half empty.”

“Well it was a little drop of sunshine,” said Lucky. “It sure made my orange juice taste good.”

“That little drop of summer would make anything taste good,” said Hoppy, laughing. “How about some carrot juice? Try it.”

Hoppy took the bottle of rum and added a drop of it to his carrot juice. Lucky took a sip and spit it out. He grabbed the bottle of rum and poured the rest of it into the carrot juice.

“There,” said Lucky, taking a big gulp. “That tastes better. Everything tastes better with a little drop of summer added to it.”

Hoppy shook his furry head and hopped away.

“Don’t forget that you owe me a bottle of rum,” said Hoppy, waving to Lucky.

“I owe you two drops,” said Lucky, picking up the bottle and looking at it. “And there are at least three, maybe four drops still left at the bottom of this bottle.”

Moral of this Story:

  • It is not a good idea to steal.
  • Example: Lucky Leprechaun stole a bottle of rum from his friend, Hoppy, although he said he only borrowed it.
