Share My Writing Process for Writing Children’s Stories

SHARE MY WRITING PROCESS

A lot of you may be wondering how I actually write so many stories and still be able to keep track of them so, I decided I would share my writing process with you. To date, I have written almost 1250 stories and most noteworthy is the fact that I do intend to write quite a few more.

MY SYSTEM

I have a system in which I keep my stories very well organized. It would be a nightmare to keep track of them if I didn’t. I started writing back in 1992. I wrote my stories on paper with a pen and then consequently, I would type them up on a computer. Over time, I would then just write them directly on the computer. I never really liked the feel of doing it that way even though it was much quicker to do so. Therefore, this year, I decided I was going to go back to my traditional method of writing on paper and pen.

MY STORY JOURNALS

First of all, back in May, 2016, found these journals on sale for $3.00 each. They are  accounting journals because the pages are ruled as such. Of course, I fell in love with them. There are 500 pages in each journal so, because I plan on doing a lot of writing, I purchased  7 of  these journals altogether. I am almost through the first one and will be starting on the second one very soon. These journals are hard cover and very durable.

PAGE NUMBERS AND TABLE OF CONTENTS

First, the journals have page numbers listed on each page. Second, and equally important, they also have a table of contents at the front. Therefore, it makes it so much easier for me to find a story quickly.

DATING STORIES

As I am writing my stories in my journals, the first thing I do is date each story. I also put the title of each story and give each story a story number. Uniquely, with this story number, it helps me to keep track of them. I also categorize each story, keeping in mind that one story may fit into several different categories.

LIST OF CHARACTERS

share my writing

I have so many different characters that I write about so, I wrote out a list of all my characters and taped it to the front of the journal. Of course, this gives me easy access to the names of my characters and when I need to figure out which character I am going to write about then I can just look at the list.

STICKY NOTES

In addition, as I am writing about each character, I use sticky notes. This allows me to make a note of especially relevant information of the characters that I write about. For me, it is very difficult to remember the details of each character so these sticky notes save me a lot of time, especially when I am trying to find out the name of a character’s wife or maybe the name of his children, etc.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, my writing process may seem complicated but it seems like it does work for me. For me, that is all that counts. I am so happy that I am able to share my writing process with you and I most of all, I do hope you get some good information from it. Hence, I do hope that you will share my writing process with other writers as I hope that they will benefit from it.
