Because Earth takes about 365.2422 days to travel around the Sun, our calendars can’t quite capture a clean 365-day year. Rather than adding a quarter of a day each year, we save up that extra time and add a full day, February 29, to our calendars roughly every four years. That extra day is exactly when Larry, Pamela, and Samantha blow out their candles.
