Angry Baker is Thankful for Melissa
It was the week before the Thanksgiving weekend in Calgary, Alberta. Angry Baker was in his bakery trying to keep up with the many orders he had to prepare. His fiancée, Melissa, was helping him. Angry Baker was thankful for Melissa because he really needed her help.
“I really appreciate you helping me out,” said Angry Baker. “Business is booming right now.”
“I am enjoying working with you,” said Melissa, opening a new sack of flour so she could prepare pie crusts for the pumpkin and apple pies that customers had ordered.
Melissa didn’t notice but some of the flour had fallen onto the floor. Angry Baker walked around the back side of the table and he stepped on the flour, slipped and fell to the floor.
“Oh dear!” screamed Angry Baker. “Who spilled the flour on the floor and didn’t clean it up? I think my ankle is broken. I don’t have time for this!”
Melissa looked around and she knew that she was the one that had spilled the flour.
“I am so sorry,” said Melissa. “I was the one that spilled the flour. I should have been more careful.”
“Yes,” said Angry Baker, through clenched teeth. “Yes, you should have.”
Melissa felt horrible. She felt her heart sink to the bottom of her stomach.
“Come help me into this chair,” ordered Angry Baker.
Melissa helped Angry Baker into the chair. She could see he was in a lot of pain.
“I am so sorry,” cried Melissa. “Do you want to go to the hospital?”
“No!” Angry Baker shouted. “I have work to do.”
Melissa ran around the bakery, finishing up the pie orders and handing Angry Baker the ingredients he needed so he could bake the bread and the cakes.
“Okay,” said Angry Baker, putting the finishing touches on the last cake. “What is next on the order list?”
“Nothing,” said Melissa, who was exhausted.
“There has to be more,” said Angry Baker. “What about the dinner rolls and the dessert tray?”
“I did those while the pies were baking,” said Melissa, pointing to a table full of individual boxed bake goods.
Angry Baker was so impressed but then he remembered how he had yelled at Melissa. He thought about how he was thankful for Melissa. He thought about how badly he had treated her and yet she managed to finish the backlog of orders he had in record time. He thought about how much Melissa meant to him and how thankful he was that she was a part of his life.
“I apologize for my behaviour earlier,” said Angry Baker to Melissa in the waiting room at the hospital. “I have realized that I am very thankful to have you in my life. Melissa, I love you!”
“I know it was the pain talking earlier,” said Melissa. “You don’t have to apologize.”
“Pain or no pain,” said Angry Baker. “My behaviour was not acceptable.”
“I forgive you,” said Melissa.
“Now,” said Angry Baker, sporting a cast on his left foot. “I think I owe you a Thanksgiving dinner.”
“That sounds good,” said Melissa. “But let’s get you home to rest.”
Melissa took Angry Baker home. He fell asleep right away while she fixed them a nice turkey dinner.
“Happy Thanksgiving,” said Melissa, carrying a tray of food into the living room.
“Happy Thanksgiving to you as well,” said Angry Baker. “You don’t know how much I appreciate this turkey dinner, even though I was supposed to be the one to cook it.”
“It is okay,” said Melissa, smiling. “I did leave the dishes for you.”
