Lil’ Rebel Does Something Nice for Father on Father’s Day
“Do you smell something cooking?” asked Father, waking up on Father’s Day morning.
“I do,” said Mother.
“What is Lil’ Rebel up to now?” Father asked as he and Mother went to the kitchen to find out what was going on. “She is always getting into trouble of some sort.”
Father stepped into the kitchen and he couldn’t believe his eyes. There, in a sparkling clean kitchen, stood Lil’ Rebel, cooking pancakes for him for Father’s Day.
“Happy Father’s Day,” said Lil’ Rebel to Dad. “I cleaned up the whole kitchen and made you pancakes for breakfast.”
“Thank you so much,” said Father, feeling bad for what he said earlier.
“I helped too,” said Lil’ Rebel’s younger sister, Pattie, carrying a jug of orange juice to the table.
“This is wonderful,” said Father. “Thank you so much!”
Father and Mother sat down at the table and ate the pancakes that their daughters had cooked for them. After breakfast, the girls cleaned up the kitchen without being asked.
“I want to thank you and your sister very much,” said Father. “This was a very nice surprise.”
“You are welcome,” said Lil’ Rebel.
All that day Lil’ Rebel behaved herself. She did things without being told and she didn’t try to argue or talk back.
“It has been a nice Father’s Day,” said Father. “I think I need to take my girls out for some ice-cream.”
“Oh yes!” exclaimed Lil’ Rebel. “I would love that.”
Father took Lil’ Rebel, Pattie and Mother to the ice-cream parlour.
Some of Lil’ Rebels friends were there and normally she would have rushed right over to be with them. However, this time, she was enjoying her time with her family.
“I would like it to be Father’s Day every day,” said Father later that evening to Mother.
“That would be nice,” said Mother. “Lil’ Rebel was so well-behaved today.”
“She sure was,”‘ said Father. “I think she is growing up.”
“You may be right,” said Mother.
“That was the best Father’s Day ever,” said Father.
