Live Earth Concert

Hey everyone! This is the Environment Bug. Guess what I did on July 7, 2007! Just like the rest of you, I watched the Live Earth concert. I loved all the performances, especially the ones by my favorite bands and if you know me well, you will know I only have one favorite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They were just awesome! Just like the rest of you, I sat in my living room, dancing and singing all my favorite songs at the top of my lungs. I loved it!

After the concert was over, I got to thinking about the point of the concert and to me, and not just because I am the Environment Bug, the point I got out of it is that we all should do something, even if it is just a little bit, to help our environment out. You might all be thinking but what difference would it make if just I were to do my part. Well, I’ll tell you, if you did a little bit and then your friends, family and neighbours see you doing it and they do it, just think how much of an impact this could be.

Now, I’m not talking about doing something drastic and life-changing, I am talking about simple little things like putting an extra sweater on if you are cold, turning your thermostat down an extra degree or two in the winter, making sure that you don’t leave your taps to drip, unplug electronic devices when they are not in use and use energy efficient light bulbs. That’s it! If we all did those simple little things, we could all be a big help to our environment.
Of course, there are some major things that we can do to help our environment such as using energy efficient means of transportation, using energy efficient furnaces, water heaters and other appliances.

The reality of the situation is if we don’t all pitch in and do a little bit today we are going to find some major changes in our climate and that will result in changes to wildlife and plant life as well. We have seen in the past few years many dramatic changes to our environment already. Just look at the changes in the weather and the terrible hurricanes, tornadoes and tsunamis. Just look at how our summers are heating up drastically and how our winters have changed since we were children.

We all need to pitch in and do a little bit today to save our earth for tomorrow.
