Spooky
“Hey Spot, ” said Fawn. “What are we going to do for Halloween this year?”
“Gee,” said Spot. “I really don’t know. I haven’t given it much thought.”
This is Fawn and Spot’s first Halloween in British Columbia. They just moved here from Ontario about six months ago.
“I think we should find a haunted house,” said Fawn. “Maybe we could find a ghost!”
“No thanks,” said Spot. “I want no part of that.”
“Okay,” said Fawn. “I’m going to find one by myself.”
“Have fun,” said Spot.
Halloween came and Spot would not go to a haunted house but Fawn was determined. He already knew the house he was going to go to. He had seen the house several times and heard that it was haunted.
Fawn went into the house with his flashlight. As soon as he entered the house, he noticed the flashlight would not work and he flicked the button on it several times, banged it a few times and nothing.
“Stupid flashlight,” exclaimed Fawn angrily, throwing the flashlight to the ground.
“It wasn’t the flashlight’s fault,” Fawn heard a voice from behind him.
The hair on the back of Fawn’s neck stood straight up. He turned around and saw his flashlight floating in the air.
“Are you a ghost?” asked Fawn.
“Yes I am,” said the ghost. “My name is Spooky.”
“Cool,” said Fawn. “It is nice to meet you. My name is Fawn. I’m so excited to meet a real ghost. Are you a good ghost or a bad ghost?”
“I don’t know,” said Spooky. “What is the difference?”
“Well,” said Fawn. “A bad ghost goes around scaring people.”
“Did I scare you?” asked Spooky.
“Not really,” said Fawn.
“Oh,” said Spooky, a little disappointed. “I guess I’m a good ghost then.”
“You don’t want to be bad,” asked Fawn. “Do you?”
“I guess not,” said Spooky.
“Trust me,” said Fawn. “Being bad doesn’t pay.”
“That is true,” said Spooky.
“So what do you do in this big house, all day long, all by yourself?” asked Fawn.
“I’m not here by myself,” said Spooky. “There are about ten other ghosts here too.”
“Really,” said Fawn.
“Yes,” said Spooky.
“Doesn’t that get crowded?” asked Fawn.
“Not at all,” said Spooky. “Most of the others go out at night. Me, I just stay here.”
“You don’t get to go anywhere?” asked Fawn.
“It’s not that I don’t get to go anywhere,” said Spooky. “I have nowhere to go.”
“Well that isn’t fun,” said Fawn. “Come with me. I’ll take you to meet my friend Spot.”
“That would be fun,” said Spooky.
Fawn and Spooky walked to the farm, where Fawn and Spot lived. Fawn took Spooky into the barn, where Spot was washing the dishes.
“Hi Spot,” said Fawn.
“Hi Fawn,” said Spot. “I guess you made it back safely. So, did you find any ghosts?”
“Yes,” said Fawn. “I did. I met a really nice ghost by the name of Spooky. He’s here right now.”
Spooky went over to the counter and lifted up a glass. Spot saw the glass floating in the air and at first she thought nothing of it but then she realized that Fawn had really brought a true live ghost home with him and then she screamed.
“Oh boy!” exclaimed Spooky. “I actually scared someone.”
“Oh you scared me all right,” said Spot, grabbing the broom.
“It’s okay Spot,” said Fawn. “Spooky won’t hurt you. He’s a good ghost.”
“I won’t hurt you,” said Spooky. “I will never hurt my friends.”
Spooky, Fawn and Spot had a lot of fun together. Spooky enjoyed the company of his new friends. He was always lonely staying in that big house but now he had friends and he was very glad.
