Helping Others
“It’s a mess out there,” Hillbilly Bob said, stomping into the kitchen, his boots caked with mud. “That mudslide has left a lot of folks stranded.”
“I know,” his mother replied, concern etched on her face. “The rain’s not letting up. Please tell me you’re staying in for the night.”
“Just checking on you and Daddy,” Hillbilly Bob said. “There are still people who need help.”
“We’re fine,” his mother assured him. “Go help those who need it. We’ve got room for a couple of people here. Please be careful with your truck. You know that windshield needs to be repaired.”
“Thank you,” said Hillbilly Bob. “I promise to be careful.”
Hillbilly Bob nodded and headed back out into the storm. He carefully navigated his truck to the mudslide site and helped transport people to emergency shelters. Among them was an elderly couple, new to the area, whom he offered to take in for the night.
As he distributed water and food, Hillbilly Bob waited for the couple to pack an overnight bag. “Oh, you’re a kind soul,” the elderly woman said, her eyes shining with gratitude. “We can’t thank you enough.”
Hillbilly Bob’s parents welcomed the couple with a warm meal and coffee. Hillbilly Bob ate quickly and headed back out to help others. A week later, the Hillbilly family was honored for their kindness. The elderly couple, it turned out, were well-off and presented them with a $500 check. Overjoyed, Hillbilly Bob used the money to repair his truck and continued helping his community, knowing that kindness always comes full circle.
