A Helpful Delivery
Grover the Grocery Store Clerk was hard at work, ringing customers orders through the till when he overheard his co-workers talking about the extra pay they received. They were given a raise because they were risking their lives due to the nasty coryvirus Storyland is dealing with.
“What are you going to do with your extra pay?” asked Sandra, one of Grover’s co-workers.
“I am going to help out my elderly neighbour, Inez,” said Grover.
“But this money is like a bonus for us,” said Sandra. “It is our danger pay because we are putting our lives at risk, working so close to our customers. You should spend that money on something for yourself.”
“You know,” said Grover. “I am still working during this pandemic so my bills are being paid. Inez has nobody. She was showing symptoms of the coryvirus so she is under self-isolation. The satisfaction of knowing Inez gets a little extra, means the world to me.”
“You sure are something,” said Sandra.
After his shift was over, he bought some groceries for Inez. Sandra rang them through for him but she didn’t take his debit card, when he handed it to her. Instead, she used her own. She also gave Grover an envelope. It contained over $300.
“What is this?” asked Grover.
“While I was on break today, I went around to some of the other employees here and took up a collection for your neighbour, Inez. I’m sure she has bills to pay. I just wanted to help out.”
“Thank you,” said Grover, very appreciative of what Sandra had done.
Grover laid the groceries on Inez’s mat and then knocked on her door. She cried when Grover handed her the envelope of cash and saw the groceries he had delivered to her.
“You have no idea how much this means to me,” said Inez. “Thank you so much!”
