Angry Leprechaun’s Cup of Green Tea
“Good morning Mother and Grand Old Leprechaun,” said Angry Leprechaun. “It is a beautiful day for St. Patrick’s Day.”
“Good morning my sweet leprechaun,” said Mother, surprised at the good mood her son was in. “Come sit and have breakfast with us.”
Angry Leprechaun sat down at the table and smiled.
“I rarely get to see that smile of yours,” said Grand Old Leprechaun. “It is so much nicer to see than that angry frown you usually have.”
“Thank you,” said Angry Leprechaun. “This year I am going to try to be happier. I am tired of being angry all the time.”
Mother set breakfast on the table and then poured tea into the three tea cups.
“This isn’t green tea!” yelled Angry Leprechaun, forgetting all about the fact he just told Grand Old Leprechaun that he was going to stop being angry. “It is St. Patrick’s Day! We have to have green tea with our breakfast!”
“You know,” said Grand Old Leprechaun, disappointed. “You shouldn’t yell at your mother like that. It isn’t her fault there is no green tea. She asked me to pick some up at the grocery store on my way here. I picked up the wrong kind.”
“Oh,” said Angry Leprechaun sheepishly. “Mother, I am sorry for yelling at you.”
“It is okay,” said Mother. “I should have told you.”
“It is my fault,” said Angry Leprechaun. “I have to learn to curb my anger.”
“It will take some time,” said Grand Old Leprechaun. “It is something you will have to work at. I would suggest that when you feel that anger coming on, take a deep breath and count to ten before saying anything.”
“That is good advice,” said Angry Leprechaun. “Thank you. I will try.”
“Good,” said Grand Old Leprechaun.
“So,” said Angry Leprechaun. “How are we going to have our St. Patrick’s Day breakfast without our green tea?”
“I have a solution for that,” said Mother. “I found some green food colouring.”
Mother was going to squirt some food colouring into Angry Leprechaun’s cup of tea but he noticed she had the blue one in her hand instead of the green one. He felt the anger boil up inside him. He took a deep breath and counted to ten, just like Grand Old Leprechaun suggested.
“It worked,” said Angry Leprechaun. “I did what you told me and I did feel the anger go away.”
“I am proud of you,” said Grand Old Leprechaun.
“Mother,” said Angry Leprechaun. “Can we have the green food colouring instead?”
“Coming right up,” said Mother, looking down and seeing the blue food colouring in her hand.
