Mountain Kid and the Bald Eagle
Hi everyone! I am Mountain Kid. I am the oldest of the Canadian Brothers. I live in British Columbia, Canada. I have a story to tell you about myself and a little bald eagle. I hope you enjoy it.
One day, I was sitting on the front porch of my log cabin. I happened to look up into the sky and I saw a bird flying around. It was a big bird and at first I could not tell what kind of bird it was because it was quite a distance away from me, but pretty soon my eyes were glued to the bird as I realized it was a bald eagle. I love bald eagles. They represent freedom to me and they are so majestic.
As I watched the eagle, I couldn’t help but stare at his beautiful white head, his beautiful dark brown feathers and of course, I couldn’t help but notice his bright yellow beak. I was mesmerized by this beautiful creature. He swooped down over the field and glided through the air, so gracefully, so perfectly. Then, he would perch himself on the very top of the tallest pine tree that he could find and he would sit there for hours and hours.
I sat and watch that eagle for the whole afternoon. I just could not peel my eyes away from him. I have lived in British Columbia almost my whole adult life and bald eagles never cease to amaze me. I could never tire of watching them.
That afternoon, that bald eagle was sitting in the tree and he actually looked over my way. I held my breath, wishing and hoping that he would see me and come closer. I got my wish. The bald eagle swooped down from the pine tree and he landed about two feet away from my front porch. I could not believe my eyes. That beautiful creature was right in front of me!
I was so excited! I wanted to rush into my log cabin and phone everyone I knew and tell them! However, I knew better than to do that because if I moved, even an inch, my new friend would be history. I just sat in my chair and watched him.
Each day, the bald eagle came and swooped down and sat on my front lawn, always about two feet away from me. One day, I decided that I would get my video camera out and film my new friend. Well, I should not have done that. The moment I started to film him, he knew it and he flew away. He never did come back to sit that close to me again. However, I did get to watch him from a distance and that was good enough for me.
