No Early Spring

Silly Groundhog was in his den on a very cold winter day. The wind was howling and it was so cold that Silly Groundhog was shivering.

“I can’t believe how cold it is,” said Silly Groundhog. “The wind is just blowing through my den and that wind is far from being warm.”

Silly Groundhog thought about his situation. He thought about moving to a different den but he liked the den he was in. It was bothersome to have to move.

“Maybe I will do some renovations instead,” said Silly Groundhog. “I could get the walls insulated, put in some new windows and get one of those high efficiency furnaces.”

Silly Groundhog called around and one contractor said he could have all the work done in a few days. Silly Groundhog told the contractor to go ahead with the work.

A few days later Silly Groundhog was sitting in his toasty warm den. He happened to look at the calendar and he saw it was Groundhog Day.

“I don’t even know if I care that it is Groundhog Day,” said Silly Groundhog. “I am nice and warm.”

Silly Groundhog thought about the people that would be waiting for his prediction on when spring would be there. He didn’t want to disappoint them. He went outside and saw his shadow. Within minutes he was back in his nice warm bed sleeping the rest of winter away.

Moral of this Story:

  • Modern efficiency could ruin the balance of Mother Nature.
  • Example: Silly Groundhog was freezing cold so he got new insulation, new windows and a high efficiency furnace. He then didn’t care about Groundhog Day.
